The Quinn Law Firm is pleased to announce that Melissa L. Larese has become a Shareholder of the firm. Attorney Larese is a member of the Quinn Law Firm’s estate planning and administration practice group and she specializes in probate and administration of decendent’s estates, assisting individuals in obtaining adult and minor guardianships, elder care planning, and estate planning, including wills, powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney and living wills. She also has experience in residential real estate transactions, wherein she represents borrowers, buyers and sellers in residential real estate closings.
Attorney Larese received her undergraduate degree from Gannon University in 2006 and her Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law in 2010, where she completed numerous summer internships in family law and a clinical externship in dependency with KidsVoice. Before entering private practice, Attorney Larese served as the law clerk to the President Judge for Venango County, Pennsylvania, and the law clerk for an Orphans’ Court Judge in Erie County, Pennsylvania, gaining useful experience in her current practice areas.

Congratulations to Quinn Law Firm attorney James F. Toohey and his wife, Mary Ann, who were honored at Saint Mary’s Follies on Sept. 14, 2018, by receiving the Ageless Remarkable Erieite Award. The award acknowledges local individuals and couples, age 75 or older, who have remained active in our Erie community, sharing their gifts and talents in selfless service to others.
The Quinn Law Firm was a proud sponsor of the event, which was held to benefit Saint Mary’s Benevolent Care Program, which was created to support senior citizens admitted to residential care but have outlived their financial means to continue receiving this care, which is not typically covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

The Quinn Law Firm supported the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network by attending their Guess That Tune Gala on Saturday, April 29. In attendance from the firm were attorneys Colleen Stumpf and Jenna Strohmeyer.
SSJNN provides one-on-one advocacy for the residents, a weekly soup kitchen, emergency assistance with food and hygiene products, community gardens and a wide variety of individualized and small group programs for children and adults. In collaboration with the City of Erie and many other organizations, businesses and individuals, SSJNN also works toward neighborhood revitalization and community and economic development.
The Quinn Law Firm is a proud sponsor of the Erie County Bar Association’s Law Day 5K held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2016. This annual race benefits the Erie County Bar Association’s Attorneys and Kids Together Program, supporting the educational needs of Erie’s students living in homeless situations and the Erie Runners Club Scholarship Fund. John McCandless presented at the National Business Institute’s Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Law Made Simple seminar on April 28, 2017. Attorney McCandless’ presentation focused on the fundamentals of Pennsylvania uninsured and underinsured motorist laws, insurance carrier obligations and ethics surrounding the handling of these cases.
Attorney McCandless represents injured victims of automobile, truck, boating and motorcycle accidents, dangerous products, dangerous roads and highways, work place accidents, dangerous premises and professional negligence, and also represents people who are the victims of insurance “bad faith.” His practice also includes commercial, contract and subrogation litigation and other, general civil litigation matters.

John Gugliotta joins The Quinn Law Firm
The Quinn Law Firm is pleased to announce attorney John Gugliotta has joined the firm and will lead their Intellectual Property department. Attorney Gugliotta specializes in intellectual property application and prosecution, with experience in patent, copyright, and trademark protection services and IP counseling, including monitoring and guiding of research at the idea stage to determine avenues of patentability, marketability, licensability and enforceability; and referral of inventions to joint venturers, OEM production facilities and independent contractors for production and sale. Attorney Gugliotta is also a professional engineer which allows him to better assist clients in the overall protection of technology-based Intellectual Property. He received his Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1985. Attorney Gugliotta earned his Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1993. He is licensed to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and Northern District of Ohio, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States Supreme Court, and the State of Ohio.

In February 2016, attorney George Joseph provided Teacher In-Service Training for a local Erie County school district. Attorney Joseph spoke on the topics of special education for the regular education teacher, reportable offenses under Act 24 and Act 82, transgendered students, and teachers and social media.
In January 2016, attorney George Joseph presented a seminar on special education issues to the local school districts’ Supervisors of Special Education at IU-5 in Edinboro. The presentation covered lessons learned from due process complaints, writing IEPs, Child Find obligations, bullying of special needs students, and transgendered students.

Ms. Strohmeyer graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and received her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. The Quinn Law Firm supported the Russian Orthodox Church’s 2015 Troika Festival over Memorial Day Weekend by serving as a team of guest bartenders at the festival’s ice bar. Over $6,700 in tips collected by the various teams throughout the weekend were donated to the community outreach prong of the church’s mission.
On May 6 and 7, attorney Colleen Stumpf presented seminars on living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care. These seminars were presented as a part of Saint Mary’s Home of Erie’s Lunch and Learn Series. The Quinn Law Firm is proud to support the Erie County Bar Association’s Kid Konnection, a short-term mentoring program with the objective of educating, building trust, offering role models, providing positive life experiences and building self-esteem to children from one of several local shelters. Kid Konnection began in 1999 and is the Erie County Bar Association’s signature community project. This year, Paul F. Burroughs, Andrew M. Schmidt participated in the 2015 program which paired each of them with a child and they, along with other paired attorneys and students, participate in approximately six organized, structured events that take place over a four-month period.
