Police arrest man after he allegedly ran from deadly crash

On Behalf of | Jun 14, 2018 | Firm News, Personal Injury

A man in Philadelphia has been arrested after police say that he was involved in a deadly accident and then ran from the crash scene.

Reports claim that a Kia minivan was driving east before attempting to turn left. During that attempt, the Kia slammed into a Ford Mustang that was heading west. The van was damaged on the front end, but the situation was worse for the Mustang, which smashed into a pair of utility poles. Those inside the sports car were trapped.

That’s when the minivan took off down another street, this time going north.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a 26-year-old passenger, who did survive the crash. That passenger was rushed over to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Mustang was a 29-year-old man. He passed away at the scene.

Photos from the crash site show a maroon Mustang on the back of a truck. This is after the Jaws of Life were used, but it’s still clear that the accident absolutely mangled the small car.

Police did not say where or how they found the man they believe was driving that minivan, though it is worth noting that they knew which van it was and the registration gave them an address. Officers were dispatched to wait, presumably to see if the 50-year-old man came home with the damaged van.

Three lives were changed forever in the blink of an eye, and so this story really demonstrates how difficult accidents can be for those who survive and the families of those who do not. It is important for all involved to know their legal rights.
