What are your odds of getting in a car accident in Pennsylvania? What are the odds of being involved in two accidents on the same evening? If you think they are very slim, you’re right, but that’s exactly what happened to one person on May 12.
The whole thing started when a minivan was involved in what appears to have been a single-vehicle crash. The van left the road and slammed into a tree. The wreck occurred around 5:45 p.m.
Emergency crews were alerted to the crash and arrived to pick up one victim. That person’s condition at the time was unclear, but the ambulance left to return to the hospital.
While it was heading to the hospital, the ambulance itself crashed into another car. The impact knocked that car off of the road and into a grassy field, and it sent the ambulance over an embankment. It finally stopped in a field at the bottom of the hill.
At least three more ambulances rushed to the scene, according to reports from the police. They had to transfer the initial victim who was already injured from the first accident, to another ambulance and transport them to the hospital. They also had to transport one of the emergency responders who was in the first ambulance.
The total number of people injured has not yet been reported, but at least those two can be tied directly to the second accident.
