5-car accident in Pennsylvania involves police car

On Behalf of | Apr 3, 2018 | Firm News, Personal Injury

A chain reaction crash in Pennsylvania sent multiple people to the hospital as a total of five vehicles crashed at once. The wreck happened on Thursday, March 22, and it occurred right around 5:45 p.m.

According to reports, the first cars to crash were a police cruiser and a car driven by a civilian. It appears that the police car had come to a red light and stopped. The driver of the car behind it had some type of medical emergency — reports do not indicate exactly what happened — and he slammed into the back end of the police car.

The crash was hard enough to push the police cruiser forward until it crashed into a third vehicle. It then crossed the median and both lanes of southbound traffic, finally stopping on the other side of the oncoming lanes.

It is unclear when the other two vehicles were hit, though reports maintain that five total cars were involved. There were at least three injured parties, and they are expected to survive. Two of them were civilians who were taken by emergency crews to Paoli Hospital. The third was the police officer. Crews transported him to Einstein Hospital, which is located over in East Norriton. Doctors evaluated him, treated his injuries and then released him from the facility.

At this time, authorities are still investigating the crash to see exactly what occurred.

Chain reaction crashes happen quickly, and many people who have no way to avoid them — such as those stopped at a red light — can get seriously injured. It’s important for them to know all of the legal options they have.
